What is EDI?

EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) is available for procedures that involve exchange of previously paper-based business messages (such as purchase orders, delivery notes or invoices):

  • in a structured format (standard) and
  • electronically
The use of EDI is pursuing four key objectives:

  • Acceleration and automation of business processes
  • Minimize the administrative overhead
  • Avoidance of human error
  • Avoid the loss of messages

The introduction of EDI is usually a move that brings significant improvements in the areas:

  • Costs
  • Error rates
  • Speed
